Finally back in India

Finally! This weekend we held our first crusade in India since churches were burned down in Orissa in 2008. Even though it was a small crusade, its effect will be to open doors for future crusades. Many people were delivered, healed and saved. After the meeting, a girl of about 15 years of age came up to me. A demon was speaking through her, saying, “I won’t leave her.” Then the presence of Jesus showed up, and I could feel it flowing through me and into this girl. Peace moved in and the demon had to leave. There is only one word for things like this: JESUS!

On Saturday evening a 50 year-old Hindu man got saved. It was very hard for him to walk because he had some kind of problem with a club foot that was severely hindering his movement. As we were praying for the sick, I noticed that he started to shake, and then his head was being thrown back and forth for a good thirty seconds before he fell to the ground. When he got up again he could walk normally for the first time in his life. Afterwards, crying with joy, he told us he felt an electric shock going through his body. YES! We preach Jesus Christ, crucified and resurrected!

On Sunday something very encouraging took place. The presence of God was amazing when it was time for me to preach, so much so that I had to start over three times because of the wonderful chaos of the anointing. During that time they had brought a man who couldn’t walk to the front. They just placed him on the floor in front of me. I preached, had an altar call, prayed for the baptism of the Spirit and forgot about the man they had placed there. Several people testified about their healings and I was just about to close the meeting when someone tapped me on the shoulder. “Look, Pastor Tommy!” one of the pastors exclaimed. The man was walking around on the stage behind me! “But that’s the man who couldn’t walk!” I said. Then we laughed and danced together. Praise God!

It was wonderful to be back in India, and a new door has been opened. It’s not quite finalized yet, but PTL will probably be able to multiply and hold several large crusades in large cities whose populations are overwhelmingly Hindu and Muslim.

It is easy to forget how big India is: over one billion people – that’s one thousand million! You could fit 120 Swedens into one India. And you could fit 2 Swedens into the city I am in now, Chennai. It is amazing to think that in this city alone, you could start several thousand churches without even having to compete for souls.

The man coordinating my crusade has preached a series of meetings at TD Jakes’ church, the Potter’s House in Dallas, and has had Ron Kenoly as worship leader at a crusade in Nigeria. He is a fantastic man.

Last week I met another wonderful brother in Dubai. He came to Dubai from Sri Lanka in 1983 just after graduating as an engineer. He got saved and then planted a church that is now the largest church in the Middle East, with 5000 visitors each week. This in a country where you can end up in jail for handing out Bibles in public!

On Monday I will visit a village for lepers, as well as an orphanage. Then I will head home Monday night.

Despite Muslim opposition, PTL’s evangelists in Ethiopia boldly preach the good news

Several times a year, evangelists in Ethiopia who have been trained through PTL Ministries do strategic outreach for the purpose of preaching the good news and healing the sick. During the final week of November, PTL’s evangelists held mini-crusades and shared the gospel door to door in the region of Aklil, 200 km from Addis Ababa in western Ethiopia. It is a region dominated by Muslims who have burned down new church plants several times in the past. So it was at great risk to their own lives that our evangelists boldly went into this region for the sake of the gospel. During this week of outreach, there was much opposition from the Muslims in the region: Believers’ houses were burned down and their fields destroyed, and rocks were thrown during the viewing of “The Jesus Film.”

But with great opposition comes great victory, and the results of this outreach are a testimony to the amazing grace of God: 1745 people including a powerful witch doctor heard the gospel and 117 gave their lives to Jesus for the first time, 23 people were healed, and 15 people were completely delivered. PTL is now looking into supporting two full-time evangelists in the region who can help the new believers grow in their faith.

100 deaf and hearing-impaired healed at a single meeting!

Nepal is the only country in the world whose constitution states that they are to be a Hindu nation. People come to Nepal from all over the world so that they can visit Hindu temples, meditate, and call down the powers of darkness.

We, however, come to Nepal to tear down the altars of idol worship and to break the power of the darkness over this country.

It has been strange how the Lord has opened up Nepal for PTL. There first time I flew into this country, there was an enormous rainbow along the border, and my plane flew into and through the rainbow. Rainbows, you can read in Genesis, are a sign of God’s covenant.

Our crusades have had a major impact here. Last year there were death threats and bomb threats at our crusade. But it ended in victory: many mountain tribes of Hindus got saved and new churches were planted.

This time we were in southwest Nepal, just below the mountains. It is a poor agricultural area where they still plow using oxen. As usual, the resistance to our crusade was intense.

The authorities were very negative toward us before the crusade, saying “you are challenging science.” Among the critics was the principal of the school in whose large courtyard we held our crusade. But now he has changed his stance toward us: he had been deaf in one ear since his youth, but Jesus opened his ear!

The police and military said “you will be responsible for what happens if the people don’t get healed.” They were afraid of riots in case people were disappointed, but by the first evening many people had already gotten healed, including a lady who had been completely blind for 16 years.

The Christians in the neighboring cities were very critical of the posters that had been printed. They completely lacked any Christian symbols, the word Jesus or the word Christian. This meant that no one knew that a Westerner was going to speak. The poster said “Master” Lilja, which is what Hindus call the guru speakers at their own big meetings. But now the Christians have asked for forgiveness and congratulated us on a successful crusade.

It is hard to estimate how many people got saved, but during each meeting more than 25,000 people prayed along during the prayer of salvation. It is impossible to say how many people were born again and baptized in the Holy Spirit. But from the stage I could see a huge number of people getting baptized in the Spirit.

So what is going to happen with all of these people?

First of all, we can’t underestimate what happens when a person is born again. It is a work of God. Not everyone who prayed the prayer of salvation was truly born again, but many were. The small churches in the region do what they can, but now God lives in these people, he takes responsibility for them, and in time they will come into churches. I was born again a full year before I came to a church, and didn’t even know that there was a Pentecostal church in my small town. But the born again, new creation on the inside of me was God’s responsibility and he made sure I ended up where I needed to be. I believe in the indwelling power in the person who has been born again.

Also, revival is a process. Most of the people had never heard of Jesus. Now they know, and the churches are going to grow over time. A balance is needed, because if things go too quickly, the church buildings are burned down and the pastors are abused and killed. We have to give Jesus time to emerge from within these tribal societies.

On Saturday evening more than 100 people were healed from major hearing loss and deafness. Each night someone who was completely blind received their sight back and many visually impaired people were healed. Many testified that their cancer tumors had disappeared and various degrees of paralysis were broken. Many children were healed.

It is impossible to say how many demons were cast out, but starting on the second night the deliverance tent was full even before the meeting was halfway through. Many “animal” demons were cast out. There were people barking like dogs, squirming on the ground like snakes and acting like monkeys. Every night there was a long line of people who wanted to tell about how their darkness was now over. The dark power that had governed their lives for such a long time was no longer there. Many Hindus told of how the demons left them when they prayed along in the prayer of salvation to Jesus. The most attention-grabbing part of our crusades isn’t the healings but the deliverances. I don’t do anything to cause them to manifest. But the same thing happens wherever we go: five minutes into the sermon, the demon-possessed start to manifest. The only explanation I have is that the presence of Jesus is forcing the darkness to flee.

I’m not asking you to believe me, because this simply must be seen with your own eyes. What happened in Jesus’ time is happening now as well.

Some people might think that seems scary. But no, quite the opposite is true. Seeing the power in the name of Jesus causes you to become both bold and calm. What enormous grace to be allowed to experience the power in his name.

It is this power that is characterizing the crusades. Just imagine: How do you preach to people who have never even heard of the Bible? These are simple people. Eighty percent of them are illiterate. They can only listen for about 20-25 minutes. So it is all about proclaiming the name of Jesus and communicating, in a simple way, that you can be born again, that God’s Spirit is here, and that you can be united with God. The problem is “bad karma”, sin, which separates you from God. But God loves you so much that he has helped you by redeeming you in his Son, Jesus, if you believe in Him.

And when Jesus confirms what I proclaim, they want to receive Him. The sick get healed, the blind see, demons are cast out, and the presence of God’s Spirit touches nearly everyone. God is there!

It takes a lot of people to put together a successful crusade. The Nepalese pastors in the district did a great job and our Kathmandu team under the leadership of Pastor Peter put forth an amazing effort. And thanks to our Asia Director as well, Bertil from Sweden.

I am so happy tonight. It is such grace to feel the power of God flowing inside of me, such grace.

After the final meeting I flew to Kathmandu and have now eaten a real dinner, the first I’ve had in the past four days. The hotel room I stayed in had lizards on the walls and there were mice running along the floor, but who cares? So many people were united with God and now have their names written in the Book of Life!

Operation Moses

It is always such a privilege to visit Israel. On this trip we made several important decisions. One of them was to start helping Jewish families in closed countries come home to Israel. These are Jews living in danger of their lives, where each new day is brings new threats. I am convinced that God will open up miraculous doors for these groups of Jews. We are calling these efforts to help them “Operation Moses”, because in the same way that Moses, by the power of God and with the Lord’s help, brought Israel out of Egypt, we are going to help these Jews home to the promised land. The sea will be parted once again.

It was also such a privilege to meet the churches in Israel. About 450 people came to the meeting this weekend, and according to them, it was the biggest gathering ever of Messianic Jews in Israel. That isn’t as important as the fact that it was a prophetic signal of what is about to happen. At the meeting about 10 people were delivered, 50 healed, 5 baptized in the Holy Spirit and about 200 people experienced God’s presence during extended prayer time in such a way that they couldn’t even remain standing. The pastors were so thankful to Jesus.

I also brought back a greeting (a one minute video) from Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, in which he personally thanks us for our support to the Jewish people. I will show it on the Kanal 10 TV station in November, and post it on this blog soon.

Thank you Lord, that in the name of Jesus we can bless Israel and your people, the Jews. Amen.

The potential to reach 500 million!

Thank you for praying with us. Right now we are negotiating with a TV station in India that wants to telecast the first six programs of international TV series. The programs will be dubbed into at least twelve languages and reach millions of Indian homes.

We have also translated test programs into Portuguese, hoping to reach out to all of Brazil. About a week ago, negotiations for Finland and Estonia were finalized.

TV has a tremendous ability to touch people, and the programs that we have produced focus solely on Jesus, signs and wonders.

The potential in India is 500 million people. There are many channels competing for this enormous population, of course. But even if 10 percent of them watched, that is 50 million people. If only 2 percent watched, that’s 10 million people. That’s the same amount as if every single person in Sweden was watching! Which would be fantastic, of course! Who knows what the future might hold!

On my way home from Addis Abeba

I’m waiting in the Addis Abeba airport, on my way home from a fantastic leaders’ conference.

We have had crusades in many places in Ethiopia over the years, and each of these places has requested that we hold a national leaders’ conference. This week pastors from many cities came together. The conference was held in Ambassador Row, and pastors from both the city and the country attended, as well as other leaders, including Ethiopia’s ambassador to Brussels, members of parliament, and Addis’ most well-known and respected lawyer, all mixed together with plenty of others. There were 400 leaders there, and they were all so hungry.

The days started at 10:00 with prayer, and at 11:00 I would start teaching. I continued until 4 in the afternoons with a brief break for lunch. The first day the Holy Spirit changed the subject in the afternoon, and I taught on the presence of God. There was an amazing breakthrough, and by the end of the lesson and the prayer time, everyone was either crying, laughing, shaking or on the ground from the power of God. Many people testified to being healed. It was such a wonderful chaos, the result of the Holy Spirit taking over.

The second day started in the same way. Several times the Holy Spirit came so powerfully that I had to postpone my teaching.

Today I have taught on personal development and from my book “Make Your Money Count.” They don’t have this kind of teaching in Ethiopia.

Next weekend our October conference gets underway in Sölvesborg, Sweden. Paige Juneaus will give a 12 lesson seminar on the Holy Spirit, starting on Friday morning and ending on Saturday at 1 pm. On Saturday afternoon I will teach twice on the theme: “Do less, get more done.” The evening will focus entirely on the presence of the Holy Spirit. Sunday at 11 am and 3 pm, Paige will speak again.

The following weekend I will teach at a conference in Israel. Please pray for that. I will tell you more about it later.

Can someone get healed through TV? Absolutely. Read what happened to one woman when she was watching our program on Kanal 10, the Swedish Christian channel.

“Hi Tommy. You prayed for someone who was depressed. Yesterday I was set free. It was like a little explosion. The “mountain of depression” came tumbling down and the enemy fled seven ways. It is so amazing to experience this healing. Thank the Lord Jesus Christ!”

PTL Global TV is now a reality

We continue toward our goal of reaching the third world – and the entire world – with Jesus-centered TV programs. No commercials, no fund-raising, just Jesus, signs, wonders and miracles for 30 minutes. Each program ends with prayer for the sick and an invitation to salvation.

Next week we will present six programs in Brazil. Estonia and Finland are also in the works. We have an open door in Nepal, and southern India is underway this spring. In Zambia our short films have been broadcast as ads during prime time slots.

Many fantastic people, brothers and sisters in the Lord who give so much of themselves, have made this possible. Jesus is the one opening the doors, and He is the source of this progress!

I never got around to the sermon

It’s my last night in Livingstone. I’m a bit tired after preaching at a total of 10 meetings in 12 days (Finland + Zambia). When I was praying during the afternoon before the meeting, the Holy Spirit showed me that I should ask everyone to lift their hands, stand quietly and wait. I did what He said. First we called out to Jesus together, and then I asked everyone, all 40-50,000 of them, to lift their hands and stand quietly. And they did! After a short while the Holy Spirit began to work, some people were baptized in the Holy Spirit, others manifested because the presence of Jesus grew stronger, and eventually it was all just chaos. The Holy Spirit took over and it was one big mess! I couldn’t preach, but then I didn’t need to. Jesus was there!

After everything calmed down, I gave an altar call for salvation and thousands of people rushed forward. And remember, the handful of churches in Livingstone aren’t very big.

When it was time to pray the salvation prayer, the presence of Jesus increased again, and we barely made it through because while all of these people were receiving Jesus, many were being delivered. Others just fell to the ground.

I had planned a longer teaching on the baptism in the Holy Spirit, but I couldn’t teach. After a few examples and explanations, we went straight into the baptism in the Holy Spirit.

No one wanted to go home. The people cried out for another week of meetings. It was a historic crusade.

Tonight we are expecting 60,000 people!

Livingstone has reached its boiling point. Everyone is talking about the crusade and about the power of the gospel. Yesterday (Friday) the number of visitors grew to 40,000, and tonight (Saturday) we are expecting 60,000! Thousands of people are receiving Jesus and right now we don’t know how to take care of the harvest. If I give an altar call tonight, as many as 10,000 people could come forward.

The wave of healing continues, but mostly it is the number of deliverances that has surprised me. Yesterday when we prayed for the baptism in the Holy Spirit, about 2,000 people raised their hands when I asked if it was the first time they had spoken in tongues. Hundreds of people manifested and were delivered.

Two emptied wheelchairs at the first meeting

There were two empty wheelchairs on the stage after the first meeting. I started by giving an altar call for salvation, and about 500 people came forward. At the first command about 50 of them fell to the ground and had to be carried off.

There is an enormous focus on Jesus. If it continues like this we are going to turn all of Zambia upside down before the crusade is over on Sunday night. I have never experienced a more powerful first meeting. If it is by the finger of God that Jesus drives out demons, then surely the kingdom of God has come.

By the way, there is a sign outside my window that says, “Beware of the crocodiles, hippos and snakes.”

We are his workmanship - born for victory!

In Ephesians Paul writes that “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” Eph. 2:10

Before you and I got saved, we were going our own way. It was a way filled with misery, where we worked by the sweat of our brows to save ourselves. But the Bible says that: “All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, every one, to his own way; and the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.” Is. 53:6. Today we are going on a new way, God’s way. We are his workmanship. It is his power that is working through us in such a powerful way. The purpose of life is to fulfill God’s purposes for our lives. All of us have different missions, gifts and callings, but there is a purpose for all of our lives that is bigger than ourselves. There is a goal and a purpose for our lives, and that is to do everything we can to make the kingdom of God a reality on the earth here and now.

We are born for victory, called to live in victory, and if the Lord tarries, then we will die in victory, because he who believes in the Lord Jesus will live even though he dies!

You might think I'm exaggerating!

The Holy Spirit is all-knowing. But depending on how long you have been walking with God and how clearly you have learned to discern his voice, it can be difficult to find out what the Holy Spirit is saying. I know many Christians who have a very hard time differentiating between their own ego and the leading of the Holy Spirit. Others aren’t able to differentiate between their own thoughts and those of Holy Spirit.

I can tell you how the leading of the Holy Spirit works in my own life. In some way, the Holy Spirit is there all the time - on his own conditions. Over time I have learned to trust him and he never lets me down. But his agenda is the one we follow, and I can’t force any other way. As I am saying this, you must remember that I have made many mistakes throughout all these years of seeking the guidance of the Holy Spirit. I don’t always understand what is right or wrong right away. Sometimes I have to take a small step and then sense whether or not I’ll be able to figure out what the Holy Spirit is saying and doing. Some times I have rushed forward too quickly, but then the Holy Spirit usually stops me abruptly, which I am thankful for!

I am especially careful about big decisions and carry them meditatively inside of me, and think about them when I am praying. That is when I wait for full assurance in my spirit. What I am describing has to be experienced personally, because when I have full assurance, then I know that it is the Father’s will and that means that it will happen. This assurance has become more and more important to me over the years, and it depends on both what I do in the little things and in the big things. It can be everything from buying a pair of pants to making decisions about a big crusade. The Holy Spirit always knows best.

Another way that I know that I am heading in the right direction is when I feel the anointing. One example is when we started PTL in India. There was so much resistance, mostly from Christians, but each time I spoke about what we were going to do in India, I felt powerful rushes of the presence of God.

So what do I do if I don’t get full assurance in my spirit, or an indication from the anointing? Then either the Holy Spirit tells me that it is wrong, or it gradually fades away on its own. But if I don’t have an assurance in my spirit, I don’t do it.

You may wonder what I do when someone prophesies over me. I listen carefully and carry it inside of me. But if neither assurance nor anointing accompanies the prophecy, then I let it go. If you only knew some of things that have been prophesied over me over the years! Some people have meant well but they haven’t really been prophesying even though they thought they were. But other times, the anointing has been so powerful that all of the hair on my head stood on end! You might think I’m exaggerating, but I’m not! When I write my next book about visions, I’ll tell you more about that experience – I still have that prophecy on a cassette tape!

Your life moves in the direction that you speak!

Your life moves in the direction that you speak! But you can break the pattern if you need to. When your thoughts have been set straight again, your self-image will automatically be adjusted based on what the word of God says about you. When your self-image more accurately reflects who you truly are, the consequence is that your way of speaking will be changed. You will speak in the direction that you want your life to go.

You can try it right now! Go off somewhere where no one can hear you and proclaim the following 12 truths out loud:

I, (your name), proclaim that I am blessed:

-with God’s supernatural wisdom, and that I have a purpose and a clear focus for my life.

-with creativity, courage, opportunities and abundance

-with a strong will and self-discipline

-with a great family, friends, good health, faith and favor

-with success, supernatural strength and development, and God’s protection

-with an obedient heart and a positive attitude to life

-with the blessing of Abraham, so that every curse, evil word and all evil that has been directed toward me is now broken off of me in Jesus’ name

-in the city and in the country, when I go in and when I go out

- and that everything that I do is successful

-and that God’s overwhelming, enormous grace and goodness are in me and with me

-with a fantastic life.

How did that feel? Wasn’t it wonderful?! Do you know why that felt so good? Because you just proclaimed who you are in Christ. Now imagine yourself in the future always speaking in alignment with the truths that you have just proclaimed! Not one negative word will cross your lips. Instead, everything that comes out of your mouth will be filled with love, faith and hope. When others are speaking of defeat, you will speak of hope! When others are criticizing, you are speaking of possibilities! You haven’t just changed your self-image – you have gained a new vocabulary!

If you can breathe, then you can pray!

One of the reasons that many people who want to develop a powerful prayer life do not succeed, is that they simply don’t know how to, or they incorrectly believe that people who pray have a special calling.

You might be saying, “But Tommy, we have different gifts, and not everyone can do everything.” Yes, I agree. Not everyone can do everything. But everyone can eat, breathe and drink. That is not something you learn! There certainly isn’t one person who has the gift of breathing, while someone else has the give of eating, right?! That’s because these are basic functions that are in all humans and they work on their own. When a child is born, he breathes and eats without anyone teaching him to.

It is the same way with prayer. It is a basic function that everyone has. You are created to eat and to breathe, but you are also created to speak with God. That is why there is no excuse or reason for you to not start to pray. This behavior, being someone who prays, is in your genes.

But in the same way that a small child goes from drinking a bottle to eating with their fingers to then being able to feed themselves a large dinner with different kinds of foods, you may also have to start praying at a stage where half of your dinner ends up on your bib! But then after several years you will be able to sit at the fanciest of tables, no longer having to concentrate on when to use a knife or a spoon; you simply eat. It doesn’t matter whether you are on the train, in your bedroom, at work or anywhere else. You just close your eyes, and right away you are before the throne, praying and speaking with God.

"Excuse me, I have to go believe!"

When Pastor Yonggi-Cho visited Sweden in the 1990’s, he suddenly interrupted one of his interviews with these words: “I have to go pray…”

The journalist who was interviewing him was quite irritated. He was sitting there with all of his important, “critical” questions, and now this “strange” preacher had the audacity to interrupt the interview with the excuse that he had to go “pray.”

Because I know Pastor Yonggi-Cho through his teaching, he could just as well have said, “Excuse me, I have to interrupt this interview so that I can go believe!”

Joshua's success had two legs to stand on

The introduction to the book of Joshua is powerful and the promises found here are fantastic. “You will succeed in everything you do,” the Lord promises, if “in all things you act on the Word.”

So why do so many Christians fail at obeying and acting on the Word? And why did Joshua succeed? The answer can be found forty years earlier in Exodus 33: “And the LORD spoke unto Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. And Moses turned again into the camp: but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, did not depart from the tabernacle.”

When Moses left the tent of meeting, the place where God spoke to Moses face to face, Joshua stayed.

The foundation for the obedience that forty years later enabled Joshua to lead the people into the promised land was laid during his time of meeting with God. You are the one who makes the choice to obey God, but the power to obey comes from God!

You have two legs. With one leg you obey, and with the other you pray! Prayer is conversing with God, feeling his presence on the inside, hearing his voice and trusting that his invisible power is with you.

Everything starts in the relationship, which reveals the Word that points to Jesus and his Spirit, that gives you power to develop the obedience to stand on the Word, which in its turn causes you to succeed at everything you do!

If you want to preach to the multitudes, you can’t stay up late watching movies and then sleep in late the next morning!

When God called Abraham, he spoke in pictures: “Look at the stars,"God said to Abraham. “So shall your descendants be.” The image of the massive number of stars was etched in Abraham’s mind’s eye: he who was childless at the time! Every night as he looked up to the skies before falling asleep, he was reminded of the promise, and faith grew on the inside of him and he realized that, “what God has promised, He is able to perform.”

They all saw things in their mind’s eye: Joseph, David, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel, the apostles and Paul: “Therefore, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision.”

I think that God packages the calling in pictures because pictures have an impact on us. What do you see when you close your eyes?

Every morning when I pray, I see many different things. These things help me to focus. Some of the things I see are as far in the future as 2020, four things in particular:

-We have become a large organization with an effective vision for revival
-We gather millions of people at our crusades and an enormous amount of people turn to God through our ministry
-A large number of orphaned street children have been saved and are now living in our family units in several third world countries
-On TV channels all over the world, we are broadcasting programs about Jesus and what Jesus is doing.

Faith sees! Jesus said that we are to believe. “Whatever you ask for, believe that you have received it and it will be yours.” So you believe that you have it before you receive it.

There are so many things that are vying for our attention. Never in all of history have people been in such an environment where we are continually inundated with a vast amount of information. The greater the information flow, the harder it is to stay focused.

That is why it is important to know where you are going, and to see your goals fulfilled in prayer. Not shadow-boxing, but step by step, in the power of the Holy Spirit, doing work based on the calling and the mission the Lord has given each and every one of us.

It is all about prioritizing, about asking yourself the question: If I continue living and doing as I am today, where am I headed? And is that where I want to go? If you don’t want to go where you are currently headed, then you have to reprioritize your life! Ask yourself the question: Where do I want my life to take me? What is the Holy Spirit whispering on the inside? What is required, what do I have to do, how do I have to prioritize to get there? Once you have received the answers, the rest is easy. You choose your daily actions based on your priorities, and you leave all the rest behind.

Do you understand? If you want to preach for the multitudes, then you can’t stay up watching movies and then sleep in late the next morning! You can’t just decide to pray when you feel like it. You have to start now, and, even in the small things, live the life that is required to reach the goal that draws closer.

So what if other people are doing other things? What does that have to do with you?! If you fill your life with TV shows and Hollywood, your sermons are going to sound like a TV show.

Another thing – and now I might be provoking some of you, but…You have to live that same disciplined life even when you are on vacation! Your relationship with God is the prerequisite for your mission from God, and you can’t take a vacation from God! You don’t take vacation from the one you love! Your relationship with Jesus is far too valuable to take a break from. Quite the opposite, when we can take a vacation from practical work, then we want to spend even more time with Jesus.

Boring? Absolutely not. Carina and I will be spending two weeks in Malta this summer. Those two weeks will be filled with prayer, reading the Bible and Christian books, and I will be writing every day since I am working on a new book. When everyone else goes out to eat and drink, we get ready for bed. When they are on their way home from the bars, we get up. That is when he is there, my God, Jesus. That is when we plan our future crusades, orphanages and evangelization strategies. That is when he teaches us. That is vacation: being with Jesus.

“But now you’re being boring, Tommy,” you say. Then you haven’t understood what I’ve just said. You are what you live! When thousands of demons are cast out at a five day crusade in Zambia, when thousands of people gather to receive Jesus in Rwanda, when an entire community rises to its feet in Ethiopia because of the signs and wonders Jesus is doing, that is not boring!

But all of these things are treasures in jars of clay. He is the one who is doing it. He does it by grace, but the jar of clay has to be genuine. It isn’t about performance, it is faithfulness to the Lamb of God. “I have promised faithfulness to the Lamb of God, with all I am and all I can,” we sing. Faithfulness isn’t what comes forth when things are difficult and we cast ourselves on God. Faithfulness is what comes forth when we have success and life is a breeze – that is when faithfulness makes itself known.

Victory in Rwanda, stranded in Africa, urgency in my spirit

For four straight nights in Rwanda, the area in front of the stage was filled with sinners who repented and received Jesus. We also had a leadership seminar during which the Spirit fell with such power that there was hardly a dry eye in the room.

When it was time for me to leave Africa, it turned out that the flight from Addis to Frankfurt was cancelled. That meant that I couldn’t get on the flight that would take me out of Rwanda, but I didn’t know why I was stranded and was left clueless at the airport in Rwanda! I prayed quietly, “You’ll have to help me now, Jesus!” The airport in Rwanda is not much bigger than a bus station, and for awhile it seemed like there were no other alternatives for me! Finally I was able to find someone who could help me check for other flights with other airlines. There was one, a Kenya Airlines flight to Nairobi, where I am now. If things go my way, I’ll fly KLM to Amsterdam, delayed because of the ash cloud in Iceland, so in the best case scenario I’ll be home tomorrow at the earliest!

It seems like there are many volcanoes waking up these days. At the same time, I am sensing the Holy Spirit telling me to increase the frequency of our crusades, that the time has begun in which the final call is going forth to compel them in. The only thing I am thinking about these days is souls. Souls, souls, souls. With a focus on repentance and the baptism of the Spirit. New family-based homes that rescue children from the streets into a home to give them Jesus.

Then the master said to the servant, ‘Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.

I think that’s where we are now: a long period of time during which we are calling out this invitation. I felt very strongly in Rwanda that although there is an emphasis on praying for the sick, and of course that is a part of the ministry of Jesus, above all he came to seek and to save the lost.

On my way to Rwanda

Preparations have been underway for several weeks for the big crusade in Rwanda. Our Africa director Pastor Shiferaw arrived a few days ago, and this weekend our Asia director Bertil Dolfén will join him. The reports so far have been positive and lots and lots of people are expected to come. There will be a record-sized choir of over one hundred singers, so we can expect plenty of energy. I know that Jesus will be there and that many people are going to be helped in different ways. We are passionate about demonstrating the kingdom of God in the power of the Holy Spirit, and there is an abundance of that power available for this crusade!

Tommy and Carina visit a center for returning Jews

So many emotions welled up inside of us when PTL visited one of the centers for Messianic Jews moving from Ethiopia to Israel.

Today about 1300 Jews live at the center. After learning Hebrew and being trained in a practical vocation, they are then gradually introduced into this super-modern society. It is a miracle that a country as small as Israel has been able to take in 1.5 million returning Jews in the past twenty years.

During PTL's entire visit, children, family and staff come up to Tommy and Carina and tell them how thankful they are. They also got to meet an elder in the tribe, a chief with a large white beard, who slowly stood up, lifted his hand, and thanked the God of Israel that we, way up in Scandinavia, love the Jews so much that we help them home to Israel. He ended by saying, “Thank you for also trying to help those who are still back home, waiting to come.”

There is no doubt that Israel, in a remarkable way, is able to take care of all of the Jews that PTL is helping home.

Tommy and Carina were also able to visit a number of other places and held a large revival meeting in southern Israel with Jews from many countries who have found Jesus in Israel.

PTL’s projects in Israel have a broad base, and include helping Jews home and humanitarian work, as well as having an active part in the revival going on in Israel.

Nothing could stop the gospel from breaking through in Shashemene, Ethiopia

Part 1, Report from Ethiopia, March 2011:

Our team had to deal with arrests, jail and beatings, but nothing could stop the gospel from breaking through in the capital city of the Rastafari religion, Shashemene.

The struggle had been going on for several weeks by the time I arrived for the crusade. Our own Ethiopian crusade team was at the forefront of an organization consisting of 200 people. They are dedicated evangelists who are being trained to hold their own crusades in the future in places I’m not able to go. They are really on fire and turned the whole city upside down. Three of them were arrested when they went to a mosque to talk about Jesus! Three others were beaten and chased off when too many Muslims responded to the invitation to the crusade. But the work they did ahead of time has really paid off. The Muslims came to hear about Jesus. Their presence affected the atmosphere – the more unreached people in the audience, the greater the power of the Holy Spirit. That was what happened on Saturday night.

Thousands of people had given their lives to Jesus, and I had actually already begun to pray for the sick, when the Holy Spirit told me to keep praying. The meeting got its second wind and I felt how power from Jesus was going forth from me! I started to pray with renewed power and called out: “Here comes more healing power from Jesus! Believe and receive!” At that moment a father noticed how his four year-old daughter, partially blind and completely paralyzed since birth, began to shake. After awhile she stood up, started to walk, and then ran back and forth. In just a few amazing seconds Jesus had touched her eyes and legs. She was completely healed.

After all of this, the pastors in Shashemene had to call an emergency meeting! They weren’t prepared for so many Muslims to visit the crusade and get saved. Now, in collaboration with PTL Ethiopia, there is a strategy in place. New churches have to be planted and there is now talk of a new season.

There are some nights you never forget

Part 2, Report from Ethiopia, March 2011:

There are some nights you never forget. This night, the second night of the crusade in Shashemene in Ethiopia, was one of those. The Holy Spirit turned the meeting upside down. Everywhere you looked there were people getting saved, healed, delivered and baptized in the Holy Spirit.

In the middle of this chaos, the girl in the photo above came up to the front to receive Jesus. I don’t know how old she was, 10-12 at the most, probably an orphan living on the street. She was dirty, and the jacket she was wearing was too big for her. She stood at the very front, weeping as she received Jesus and the baptism in the Holy Spirit along with hundreds of others. Jesus was touching her and some other children in a very special way. I invited them up on stage. One of the children manifested right away, as the demons threw him on the floor and he twisted in major convulsions. The three other children manifested as well. This girl, however, just shook and wept. What do you do when children start getting thrown all over the stage by a power you can’t see? I can assure you that everything turned out alright. The powers of darkness let go of them as soon as we laid our hands on them, and thanks be to God, they were all delivered.

How had these demons come into the children? I don’t know. Street children have to steal, sell their bodies and take drugs in order to survive, and maybe that’s how the darkness had entered them. You can wonder what these children’s lives would have been like if they hadn’t met Jesus! “So what is happening with them now?” you wonder. For several days we did everything we could to identify the girl in the photo and the other children. We have room for them in our orphanages in Ethiopia.

I can now tell you that we have succeeded in identifying the girl. Her name is Doretti, she is 10 years old, her mother is dead and she was living on the street, up until Sunday. Now she is living temporarily with one of the families of the church. I left some money for clothes, food and school fees so that she could start school again, and now she will receive help until the day that she is an adult and can stand on her own two feet.

The work that you and I are doing together to help Jews home, run Bible schools, and hold crusades is saving so many lives. Testimonies like Doretti’s encourage us to work even harder. She cried for joy when she realized that she would no longer need to live on the street and that she would get to start school. She cried when I left, and her tears go out to you also.

I am telling you this to encourage you for standing with us and seeing the many effects that our crusades have on the communities where Jesus steps in. Your help is saving lives, in this case the lives of 5 children.

Three of PTL's interns in a Muslim jail

As many of you know, we run a Bible school called ”School of the Crusader” in many parts of the world. One of them is located in Ethiopia. We have 12 students, crusade interns whom teach personally, but who also live out that teaching in real life. They receive 50 USD per month from PTL and evangelize 5 days a week. Then they fast on Saturday and go to church on Sunday.

Right now all twelve of them are in Shashamene, the religious center of rastafari, with a huge Muslim population. When I was in Addis Abeba two weeks ago, we agreed that their main task would be to invite the rastafari and Muslims to PTL’s crusade the first week of March.

On Saturday three of them visited a MOSQUE in order to witness and pray for the sick!!!!!! Chaos ensued and all three of them were put in jail. They were released yesterday.

I talked to our Africa director today, and we agreed that he needed to ask them to calm down and simply invite people to a “peace and healing” conference the first week of March. But they are totally committed and totally crazy. When we pray together there is no end to the tears or the prayer! They have just completed their first two exams on the content of the PTL crusade manual, so they know just what needs to be done.

It makes me so humble to get to be a leader for these young evangelists who are willing go to jail for telling people about Jesus.

New Bible school in Israel

This Thursday we are starting our new evening Bible school in Jaffa, south of Tel Aviv, a stone’s throw from Simon the tanner’s house. This was where Peter fell into a trance and had the vision of the sheet coming down with all the animals on it.

Our focus is going to be evangelization. Our focus on Jesus continues to grow stronger. Paul writes to the Ephesians about how important it is to have the “right faith” in Jesus. At the same time, we can see that Jesus is under attack. The most serious threat comes from within, when Jesus is described inaccurately, and other other things come into focus instead.

So one of our goals leading up to 2020 is for everything we do to always lift up the name of Jesus in a very clear way. For example, we are now working on a new studio background for our TV program, and we want the name of Jesus to be clearly visible

We receive many suggestions, and many people want to work with us, but the Lord has spoken clearly that we are to stay powerfully Jesus-focused and our pathway is the salvation of the lost. He has told us to stay out of church politics. Unfortunately I fail at that at times, and every time my tongue slips or my pen gets ahead of itself, things don’t turn out well.

The staff that PTL has received is baptized in FIRE, the fire of the Holy Spirit, and that is our commission, in Israel as well.

I know that the day has already arrived, and that events are already underway, so that they will “look on him they have pierced,” and that is why I am thankful to God for the grace to be a part of this prophetic movement.

God is a team builder

Carina and I come from one of the smallest cities in Sweden, and when we met, we knew nothing about church! We had no idea that there were churches other than the Lutheran state church. That gives you a good indication of how unchurched we were. But God had a plan. One day He would reveal Jesus to me so that I could be saved. Six months after I was baptized, Carina also accepted Jesus. We were both about to turn 30 and we both had good jobs. I was a principal of an elementary school and Carina was a chemist at a hospital. Our careers were all lined up for us. What we didn’t know was what God had planned for us. He had prepared everything, given us an education, and laid the foundation for the future. And when the time had come, he brought us out of the kingdom of darkness and into the kingdom of His beloved Son. About twenty years have passed since then.

Carina and I, along with many others, are a part of a team that is fighting for the gospel side by side. That is how God does it: He is a team builder. Just think about when he brought twelve apostles together into a team. They were all different; Peter, John and Thomas. Not to mention Paul, who was called after Jesus’ resurrection to go to the Gentiles. They all had different strengths and weaknesses, but under the guidance of Jesus and with the power of the Holy Spirit, they were a team that broke down strongholds, planted churches and took the gospel to the entire known world at that time. Thomas reached India, Andrew reached northern Africa, Peter reached England and Paul reached Romania and Spain.

We are a team with different tasks in the kingdom of God. We live and work in different places, but together we get to be a part of fulfilling the plans and purposes of Jesus in our time. Together, we are taking the gospel to the unreached people in northern India, Nepal, Pakistan, Zambia, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Israel, the Arab world, etc. We continue where the apostles left off, and we bring the Jewish people home, from distant lands, to the holy mountain of God in Jerusalem. We hear “what the Holy Spirit is saying to the church” and see how everything is being coordinated by Jesus. Crusades, church plants, humanitarian aid, children’s villages, healing, prayers and gifts.

New Bible school opening in February

Our newest Bible school is finally about to get started in Israel. In the middle of February we are opening Jaffa Training Center – equipping the saints for the ministry of Jesus Christ.

If everything goes according to plan, our Jerusalem Training Center will open as well, with a focus on MBBs (Muslim Background Believers) from the West Bank. So during 2011 we will be based out of three locations in Israel: Ashdod, Jaffa and Jerusalem.

We also continue to help Jews home to Israel. We estimate that we will help about 1250 Jews home during 2011, most of them from Ethiopia, from one of the lost tribes of Israel (the tribe of Dan).

Why does PTL help Jews home to Israel?

This is an artist’s portrayal of what it might look like when the new Jerusalem comes down from heaven. No one knows what that will look like. A lot of people get stuck wondering about the details surrounding Jesus’ second coming while forgetting the most important thing: that there is a lot of work that needs to be done for that to happen. These things are: Helping the Jews home to Israel, preaching the gospel to all nations and being a part of the local church.

The photo above shows a baptism in the Jordan River during our latest group trip to Israel. Nine people were baptized, including a Catholic priest and a young girl from Brazil.

Today we can see that two movements that started 2000 years ago are now nearing their climax. The Jews are on their way home to Israel, and soon the gospel will have reached all nations. Everything is coming together perfectly according to God’s plan.

Just when the Jews started to return to Israel in the middle of the 1800’s, the revival church started to become empowered to conclude the Great Commission. Simultaneously, the Holy Spirit emphasized Bible verses about the Jews as God’s possession. The insight into the meaning of Genesis chapter 12 – where God promises that whoever blesses Abraham (that is, Israel and the Jews) will be blessed – revealed the lies of replacement theology while also revealing God’s true plan for the Jews. Christians began to actively work to help and bless the Jewish people. They realized the association between the final phase of evangelization, the restoration of Israel, the second coming of Christ and the Jews’ Messianic calling to receive Him in Jerusalem. See Zach. 12:9-14:4.

So, should we help the Jews home to Israel?

“Behold, I will lift My hand in an oath to the nations, and set up My standard for the peoples; They shall bring your sons in their arms, and your daughters shall be carried on their shoulders.” Is. 49:22. The oath is the virgin who will conceive and bear a Son, Jesus (Is. 7:14). When we see the oath, Jesus, all nations will help the Jewish people home to Israel.

“It shall be that I will gather all nations and tongues…Then they shall bring all your brethren for an offering to the LORD out of all nations, on horses and in chariots and in litters, on mules and on camels, to My holy mountain Jerusalem.” Is. 66:18-21.

“It shall be,” Isaiah foretells, that the nations, you and I, as a way of giving thanks to God, will help the Jewish people home to Israel, to God’s “holy mountain in Jerusalem”!

So how many Jews do they have room for in Israel? “When I have brought them back from the nations…I will gather them to their own land, not leaving any behind.” Ez. 39:27-29. There will be room for everyone, no one will be left behind, and everyone will be given the opportunity to return.

The inner motives of the church are tested and revealed in the history of the Jewish people. One church has persecuted the Jews for 2000 years and has been indirectly responsible for the suffering and death of a large number of Jews. This church has also intensely attempted to quench all revival movements. The other church, however, is just the opposite. With self-sacrificial love and a huge heart, they have fought for Israel while having a passionate commitment to reaching the lost.

14 baptized in Ashdod, Israel

For about two years we have been working with Pastor I. P. in Israel, an apostolic Messianic church movement that has seen the Jews of Israel come to faith in Jesus as the Messiah of Israel, the Son of God.

In his latest newsletter he tells about their struggles and their great needs, but also the wonderful news that they have recently baptized 14 Jews in the name of Jesus.

But even while the revival is gaining strength, the resistance is increasing too. There have been attempts to throw them out of their church building.

Just as Paul gathered help and support from the Gentile churches for the saints in Jerusalem, it is important today, too, that we support this church movement in Israel.

PTL Children Aid : benefiting both children and businesses

Alongside the revival ministry that PTL has, we also prioritize helping orphaned children in six different countries around the world. These projects have been under-financed and we haven’t been sure how the Lord would help us.

But this year we sensed the leading of the Lord to develop a way for companies to be able to purchase advertisement packages, where all of the proceeds go directly to children in the third world. It’s a project that benefits these children, first and foremost, but it is designed so that companies benefit as well. Read more on the PTL Children Aid homepage, http://www.ptlchildrenaid.com.

Several company executives are involved with this project and helping us out. All of them are working as volunteers. And since my own income comes from the church and PTL, that means that 100% of the proceeds go to these projects that help the children. We want to help as many as we can.

We don’t even have the money to provide for them right now – about $800 a month, but we are going to figure out a way to make this work.

Newly-saved upper-caste Hindus make up the foundation of more new church plants

Encouraging reports after our latest crusade in eastern Nepal continue to pour in. We had planned to start up one church, but because so many Hindus were saved in the mountain villages where no churches existed, the number of church plants is now growing. One of them is made up of about 20 upper-caste Hindus, the Brahmins. They were powerfully impacted by their encounter with Jesus and the unbelievable healings that either they or their loved ones experienced.

Death threats and bomb threats: the truth about the latest crusade

Dear friends,

Thank you for all of your prayers and encouragement. It’s been a few days since I came home, and now I can tell you a bit more about what really happened in eastern Nepal.

The truth is that the first bomb threat actually came two weeks before the crusade. The marketing campaign had just gotten underway when our coordinator got the first phone call. “Cancel this crusade or we will bomb it.” Was it a serious threat? Yes, absolutely, since only a few months have passed since a Catholic priest lost his life in a bombing.

But that wasn’t all. The pastors in the committee received death threats as well, which resulted in them backing out. Two weeks before the crusade nearly everyone had backed out. This led to big problems, because a crusade is built up around a leadership committee, where each leader represents a department. The department in its turn is responsible for different tasks based on a job description in the PTL Gospel Crusade Manual.

So we had to quickly call in people from Kathmandu whom we had worked with before, and so it continued. Letters were spread throughout the region that both threatened and slandered the purpose of the crusade.

That’s why there weren’t many people there on the first evening of the crusade. We had three levels of security. The local police collaborated with us, so they were there. We had also hired a private security force, and in addition there were some plainclothes former Maoist freedom fighters mixed in among the crowd.

When the first meeting started there weren’t more than 1000 visitors, and I would estimate that 90% were low-caste Hindus who had come down from the mountain villages. When I started to preach I felt the presence of Jesus right away, and the Holy Spirit and the anointing grew as the meeting went on, and when I finally invited them to pray the sinner’s prayer, everyone wanted to receive Jesus. They were incredibly willing, and when I started to pray for the sick in Jesus’ name more people were healed in proportion to the size of the crowd than I’ve ever seen, and it continued. Amazing healings like deformed feet that were turned to the correct position, eyes that were opened and as you’ll read further down, one woman had been healed was even able to report back that the doctors confirmed her healing.

Each evening more and more Hindus came, and Jesus really met them. However, each day the threats increased. But when Saturday came and the final meeting was over, none of the threats had been carried out.

What’s happening there now? Now we are starting a church in this place, and it is already underway. In the villages the pastors are following up the ones who got saved and we really stirred up something in eastern Nepal!

Nepal is the only country in the world where it is stated in the constitution that the country is to be a Hindu nation. Nepal is extremely poor and under-developed, and they need all kinds of help.

There are currently about 200 pastors in our network. They all have small churches and none of them has any training. Lots of churches are in the process of being established, but the problem is that the pastors have no training whatsoever. What they need is a helping hand, not just from PTL, but from many, many people.

We would like to reach in and help this network, with training, support and friendship. But it is a big step to be responsible for so many people. We are asking for resources: we know that if we can help these 200 churches and pastors get established and start to grow, then Jesus, through them, will be able to reach so many of the Nepalese.

Please, if you are reading this, stand with us in prayer. Nepal is like the roof of India, and if the gospel can have a huge impact on this nation, then Nepal can begin to impact the parts of northern India that are very closed today.

Doctor confirms a miraculous healing

I’ve just landed in Delhi. Tomorrow I’ll be visiting our Bible school as well as PTL Children AID here in Delhi.

The woman in the photo above had an unusual testimony. She had attended our first crusade meeting on Wednesday, at which time she had a cancer tumor growing in her stomach. On Thursday she was scheduled for a follow-up doctor’s appointment. He could confirm what the woman had already felt, that the tumor was completely gone! On Friday she came to the crusade again, and this time could testify to what Jesus had done! Fantastic.

I am still processing everything that has happened during this trip. We have seldom confronted such resistance. Our Kathmandu team and PTL’s leader, pastor Peter Rai, has done an amazing job. They have really been tested and tried these past three months. I am so thankful for the work they have put in to prepare for this crusade. Without pastor Peter and his team’s hard work, Jesus would not have been able to do all the wonderful things He did these past few days. The bomb threats caused most of the volunteers to decide not to help us, and many Christians did not come to the crusade. But the Hindus did, and that is what counts: the salvation of new souls.

Completely blind since the age of 2, now he sees crystal clear!

It is two in the morning, and I landed in Kathmandu after a late-night flight. The crusade ended this afternoon and I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many healings in proportion to the size of the crowd.

The boy in this photo had been completely blind since the age of 2, and during prayer this afternoon, Jesus opened his eyes.
